Unprofessional Booking Process and Poor Communication. I recently made a reservation at Do Plaça Reial powered by Sonder through their website for a stay in Barcelona. I provided my credit card details at the time of booking and the charge appeared as pending on my credit card. However, I never received any confirmation email or communication from the hotel regarding the status of my reservation.
When I contacted the hotel, I was informed that my reservation had been canceled due to non-payment. However, I had not been notified about any payment issues within the required, nor did the hotel provide any follow-up or reminder about the need to confirm payment. Given that the charge was still pending on my credit card, I was under the impression my reservation was confirmed. There response was that I didn't have a reservation and it was only a hold which was released when they didn't receive payment and it's not clear why they didn't take payment when I had provided my credit card details on their website at the time of my booking.
To make matters worse, the hotel is now telling me I must make a new booking at a price 40% higher than my original reservation. This situation is incredibly frustrating, as it seems the hotel failed in both communication and proper handling of my booking.
I expect the hotel to honor the original reservation at the agreed-upon rate, as I provided my payment details and would have acted on any notification if the payment issue had been communicated properly. Instead of telling me that they will get back to me with an update within 24-48 hours despite me being due to arrive in the next 36 hours, I urge the hotel to take responsibility for this oversight and resolve this matter by honoring my original booking and price.. .
